This is a project I did based on my local Gurdwara in Huddersfield. I was pretty much raised in Huddersfield, travelling from my hometown—Oldham—to Yorkshire most weekends. This project sits very close to my heart, as it's where I learnt more about my religion: Sikhi.

I was in awe of the women in my community doing seva. In Sikhism, seva (meaning "selfless service") is a core principle and way of life. It involves performing acts of service for others without any expectation of reward or personal gain, and it's seen as a way to connect with God (Waheguru).

Every image in this project is seen through one person’s perspective—how I see the gurdwaras through my eyes. It may seem simple, but we all see things differently. This is a story to be told, and I get to tell it through my own lens—through the eyes of a young Sikh woman in the 21st century.

I feel connected—deeply rooted—in my heritage
